In Memory

Charles G. (Chuck) Groh

PINEDALE — Following a lengthy illness, Charles Griffiths Groh, 68, of Pinedale, Wyo., passed away at his home on March 29, 2020, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

An avid outdoorsman, Chuck enjoyed fishing, camping, backpacking, traveling, walking his dogs, spending time in nature with family, cribbage, music, dry-humor and protecting and uplifting those around him.

He was born October 20, 1951, to Louis Martin Groh and Elizabeth (Betty) Griffiths Groh in Rawlins, Wyo., Chuck’s family later moved to Cheyenne, Wyo., where he graduated from Cheyenne East High School in 1970.

During his time in Cheyenne, Chuck met the love of his life and wife of 45 years, Jahna Rex, and the couple eventually settled in Rock Springs, Wyo.

Chuck retired as a Machinist at Bridger Coal Company near Rock Springs after a period of 35 years, also serving for a time as vice president of the Western Energy Workers labor union and as an Emergency Medical Technician with Bridger’s mine-rescue program.

Chuck made and enjoyed many lifelong friendships cultivated at Bridger Coal and regularly spoke fondly of the bonds he cherished throughout his professional career.

Chuck and Jahna relocated to their dream home in Pinedale, Wyo., shortly after retirement. Charles’ final moments found him facing north towards the Wind River Mountains, his version of heaven on earth.

Charles is survived by brother; Marti of Denver, Colo., daughter; Cheri Leigh, of Lonetree, Colo., son; Jeremy Groh and wife Jessi, of Bend, Ore., daughter; Jessica Salazar and husband Leo, of Rock Springs, and son; Joshua Groh and wife Erin of Rock Springs. Grandchildren include Riley, Payton, Madelyn, Lily, and Izabella.

Services are being postponed as a result of the COVID-19 virus, while plans for a possible gathering of family and friends is being discussed for the summer of 2020.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you love your neighbor and donate time or money to the charity of your choice.

Chuck was a great friend from about 7th grade onward, when I first met him. I didn't see him much after I left Wyoming after college, but it was great to see him and talk to him and Jana again at the 40th reunion. One thing people might not know about Chuck was that he was a really funny guy, great sense of humor. I wish Jana and his family peace and love and great memories of a great guy!
