Cheyenne has changed quite a bit since our graduation in 1970. The Botanic Gardens is now a beautiful symbol of our growing community and is the location of our Ice Breaker. We now have four high schools, adding South High School in 2009. Carey Junior High School is still on Pershing, but a new building has been constructed and the new Carey, opening just this year in August, is now located next to East High where the old Oakie Blanchard Stadium once stood. The NEW Oakie Blanchard Stadium is now located NW of its old location, still by East High School. Central High School is now located on the western part of town next to Interstate 25, with McCormick Junior High right located right across the field. Triumph High School is the school district's fourth high school (it formerly was called High School III). It has a non-traditional approach to meet the needs of its students in reaching their educational goals.  A new St. Mary's School was built after demolishing the old school building. It opened in January 2009.

Remember Cole Shopping Center: Safeways, Cooksey's Fashions, Brown's Shoes, Roedel Drugstore, the summer sidewalk sale with the little carnival rides? Gone. Not there anymore. It also has been demolished and Blue Federal Credit Union (formerly Warren Federal Credit Union) has built its headquarters in that space. Wow-what a structure! This was just finished about a year ago.

On September 8, 2007, the new Laramie County Library in Cheyenne opened at 2200 Pioneer Avenue. It is located across the street from St. Mary's School on the west side. Thanks to money approved by voters, the new library is a three-story, 100,000+ square foot experience that has become a destination for the community. Among the awards it has received include: 2008:  Library of the Year: Laramie County Library System, WY, The Impact Library, https://www.libraryjournal.com/?; 2012: 10 Best Children’s Libraries, https://livability.com/; and 2016: 6 Best Children’s Libraries in the United States, https://www.mommynearest.com./.

The State Capitol has just had a $300 million renovation, completed July 2019. (interesting fact: the Governor's office has been moved and it now has a shower connected to the office.) It is absolutely beautiful. If you visit, make sure you take the tunnel that goes to the Herschler Building. That's where you'll find the statues of Esther Hobart Morris and Chief Washakie. They were removed from the front of the Capitol Building during the renovation. You will be quite impressed with the beauty of the architecture and the painstaking details that went into this renovation.

Remember our old hangout, Little America? It also had a multi-million dollar renovation in 2008 in the main building. It is quite stunning. They still sell ice cream cones!

We hope your visit to Cheyenne will be full of fond memories and an adventure for you in rediscovering the town in which you graduated!
